Saddened by the tagline for the Car book (which looks wonderful, and I'd buy it, but...) Crazy Cars is a book I wrote and illustrated
for boys.
Lots of girls are fascinated by cars. Lots of other little girls would get interested in them, if you gave them the chance.
It's my belief that there are a hundred little nagging pinpricks in our society, like the "for boys" tag on that book, which push kids - like sheep into a sheepdip - into their gendered roles. But if you disagreed with me and thought it was all biological, then where is the need for the "for boys" (=Girls not welcome!) tag?
